This 9000 sq.ft house in Gurgaon has been designed for a family of 4, parents and two kids. The brief from the client was to have a house where their kids have enough space to play and they can entertainment family in a casual setting. They also wanted a house which wasn’t purely modern and had elements of modern Georgian style.
The house has been planned around the three open spaces – front garden, rear garden and a central courtyard. The design idea was to create a variety in the open spaces and plan the programme in such a way that each outdoor space can be used directly for a different function. The house has been designed with a basement, ground, first and a small space on the second floor with a large terrace. The basement is mostly for storage and a large open space for kids play, the ground floor for more public activities like the drawing, dining, kitchen, study and a guest room. The first floor is for private spaces like the bedrooms and family lounge and the second floor is for a gym/ yoga space and a small hall for entertainment so as to make the best use of the terrace. The house design revolves around staying connected with the green from everywhere, as even the first floor has views of e garden opposite the plot.
The house on the ground floor is designed in such the spaces flow from outdoor to indoors spaces as you move along creating variety of experiences.
The design vocabulary of the house is on the lines of a modern Georgian style. Keeping that in mind, the façade design incorporates symmetrical compositions, Georgian style door-windows and classical detailing like cornice and ‘dentil’ moldings.
